As most of you are aware, our long time friend and co-worker, Paul Kern,
has been receiving treatment and underwent surgery for cancer which he was
diagnosed with in May 2007. Almost 1 year later he is still in treatment and with
all of our prayers, hopefully, he will soon overcome this devastating disease.
I wanted to share with you some of the things Paul has gone through over the past year:
5/21/07: Diagnosed with tonsillitis
6/8/07: Surgery to remove tonsil, doctor found tumor, biopsy reveals cancer!
7/2/07: 1st Chemo therapy treatment
9/26/07: Procedure to insert Peg tube
10/4/07: 1st of 32 radiation therapy treatments
11/8/07: Stops working
11/16/07: End of radiation
1/14/08: cT scan - still see something could be from radiation
1/30/08: PT Scan - 75-80% of cancer gone - probably some still there
2/15/08: Biopsy on remaining mass shows there's still cancer on the back of his tongue
2/20/08: Gets referred to Hospital of University of PA
3/4/08: HUP does biopsy, CT Scan & MRI, they advise aggressive surgery
3/10/08: Surgery to remove remaining tumor - trach tube inserted during surgery
Spends 7 days in hospital
3/27/08: Chin starts leaking
3/31/08: Goes to plastic surgeon and is referred back to surgeon-complications from surgery. He is back into hospital for 4 days.
4/1/08: 1st of 20 Hyper Baric treatments to help with the healing process.
