The Right to Organize and Bargain Collectively:
Each year 75% of employers who face organizing drives
engage in union busting, and 92% compel their
workers to attend anti-union meetings. In 2008, we'll
support candidates who will fight for our rights to organize
and bagrain collectively - starting with the passage
of the Employee Free Choice Act, which includes
card check and first contract arbitration,
so that the tens of thousands of workers who want to join
CWA will succeed. These long overdue changes are the key
to rebuilding the American labor movement
and extending collective bargaining to tens of millions
of Americans.
Healtcare for all:
Today, preserving health benefits stands at the center of contract negotiations.
As the cost of healthcare soars, every CWA employer is
hammering us for healthcare takebacks - like increased copays, premium
contributions, and reductions in retiree coverage.
Meanwhile, 45 million Americans have no healthcare
at all. In 2008, CWA will push reforms to take healthcre off the bargaining table and get all
Americans covered.
Fair Trade and Good Jobs:
The trade policies of the last 8 years have driven
down our wages and eliminated our jobs. In '08, we
will support candidates who believe in policies that reward our labor, protect our jobs, and promote fair-trade,
not free trade.
Affordable High-Speed Internet:
Speed matters. CWA is campaigning to
bring affordable, high-speed internet to
all Americans while creating quality 21st
century jobs. In '08, the campaign will
fight to ensure that American infastructure
and union jobs lead us through the 21st Century.
